JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, CONTRACTED UNDER PURCHASE ORDER NUMBER NN15HP10P, WITH COOPER CONSULTING SERVICES FOR THE ACQUISITION OF LABOR AND MATERIALS IN SUPPORT THE MINIATURE BIOMETRIC SENSOR WITH HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT FEEDBACK. THIS PROTOTYPE MONITOR WILL MONITOR HEART RATE, TEMPERATURE, BLOOD OXYGEN SATURATION, GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE, AND ACTIVITY THROUGH ACCELEROMETRY. COOPER CONSULTING SERVICES WILL PROVIDE ENGINEERING DESIGN, FABRICATION, ANALYSIS, AND TEST SUPPORT DURING DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF A PROTOTYPE EAR BUD-BASED SENSOR. HEART RATE MONITORING ON THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION TODAY IS ACHIEVED WITH A COMMERCIAL CHEST STRAP AND TRANSMITTER. DATA QUALITY IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS NEEDED TO HELP MEET MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS AND SUPPORT ONGOING RESEARCH EFFORTS. COOPER CONSULTING HAS DEVELOPED AN EAR SENSOR MODULE WITH AN INFRARED SENSOR FOR MEASURING TYMPANIC TEMPERATURE AND A PHOTONIC SENSOR FOR MEASURING PLETYHSMOGRAPHIC SIGNALS SUITABLE FOR DETECTING PULSE ARTE. THE PROTOTYPE EAR SENSOR RECORDS TEMPERATURE, PULSE WAVEFORM, 3-AXIS ACCELERATION SIGNALS, BLOOD OXYGEN SATURATION LEVELS, GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE, ELECTROCARDIOGRAM DATA, AND OTHER BIOELECTRIC SIGNALS. NASA IS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING THIS EAR BUD SENSOR FOR EVENTUAL USE ONBOARD THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION. UNDER THIS PURCHASE ORDER, COOPER CONSULTING SERVICES WILL DEVELOP A PROTOTYPE SENSOR FOR NASA TO TEST. COOPER CONSULTING SERVICES WILL DEVELOP USER REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATIONS (URS), DEVELOP A HARDWARE DIAGRAM, WRITE THE SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATIONS (SRS) FOR THE RECORDER MICROCONTROLLER, SELECT AND EVALUATE SENSOR COMPONENTS, DESIGN EAR SENSOR ELECTRONIC CIRCUITRY, DESIGN AND FABRICATE EAR SENSOR PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB), REVISE CURRENT RECORDED HARDWARE TO INTERFACE WITH SENSORS, UPDATE RECORDER MICROCONTROLLER SOFTWARE, REVISE LABVIEW SOFTWARE DESIGN, BENCH TEST THE PROTOTYPE SYSTEM, AND SUPPORT NASA HUMAN TESTING ON SENSORS AND SYSTEMS.
