Notice ID: 1333ND23QNB670423 Description The Transformational Networks and Services Group in the Smart Connected Systems Division (SCSD) of the Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) develops foundational network science, network measurement science, standards, and best practices to support industrial transformations critical to national priorities such as industrial automation, smart grids, and smart transportation. The Group’s research efforts include 5G/6G core networks and services, connected and automated vehicles including vehicle teleoperation, cloud computing, edge intelligence, optical and quantum networking, information-centric networks, and indoor localization. II. OBJECTIVE Obtain contractor support services in developing new networking and measurement technologies for next-generation networks (e.g., 5G and 6G, and quantum networks) in several key areas. III. SCOPE OF WORK / GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The contractor shall assist in the design, evaluation, and demonstration of new algorithms for supporting edge AI (artificial intelligence), AI-based network architectures, end-to-end service quality assurance, and interservice interference measurement and management. The contractor will provide research support and will design distributed optimization and learning algorithms for the following: A. Edge learning that can overcome key challenges such as non IID (identical and independently distributed) data, data privacy requirements, and security requirements. B. Optimal resource allocation for end-to-end quality-of-service (E2E QoS) assurance in 5G/6G networks and other networked systems such as automated vehicles. C. Efficient entanglement routing in quantum networks in the presence of untrusted nodes, The contractor shall work closely with a team of CTL scientists who are working on 6G core networks, where this project is located.
