The Director, Surveillance Services oversees an organization responsible for implementing systems and services that provide critical surveillance data used to separate air traffic and provide situational awareness for airspace users. The incumbent is responsible for sustaining systems that support current, tactical air traffic operations and for executing new NextGen foundational surveillance technologies. The Director leads efforts to keep critical sustainment and replacement programs on track and develops and deploys surveillance and broadcast services and related technologies. The Director executes the duties and responsibilities of this position via three (3) multi-layered, geographically dispersed organizations comprised of over 70 employees and manages an annual budget of approximately $250M. Specific responsibilities include: Provides authoritative guidance on matters concerning National Airspace System (NAS) surveillance systems including developing national policies to incorporate greater efficiency and new surveillance technologies with existing surveillance capabilities and for the purpose of sustaining and maintaining FAA legacy surveillance and broadcast assets. Directs the establishment of a national surveillance services portfolio approach, completes major acquisition milestones and deliverables such as Investment Analysis Readiness Decision and Life Cycle Cost Estimates. Oversees and facilitates interagency and international workgroups to foster more effective collaboration, planning and harmonization among surveillance programs and across Air Navigation Service Providers. Interacts with officials within the FAA, key representatives of Congress, and various government stakeholders including the Federal Communications Commission, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and Office of Management and Budget to advocate for issues related to the Office of Surveillance Services.
