This position reports to the Director, Flight Operations Directorate. The Chief, Mission Systems Division: Is responsible for the leadership, management, technical, and budget for the NASA Mission Control Center (MCC) which includes the specific hardware/software platform infrastructure for NASA's core human spaceflight real-time vehicle command capability, telemetry processing/display, spacecraft communications, and software applications, all of which support multiple flight control ground teams that monitor and/or control spacecraft for all NASA human space flight Programs to provide crew safety, vehicle safety, and accomplish the mission objectives. This includes responsibility for the ground segment command and control and network integration for international partners, commercial partners, visiting vehicles for the ISS, commercial LEO, Artemis, and new flight programs. Is responsible for leadership, management, technical, and budget for design and development, integration, testing and verification, sustaining engineering, logistics and maintenance of all aspects for the human space flight MCC Systems, Training/Simulator Systems, and Space Vehicle Mockup Systems and Facilities, and cyber. Is responsible for the strategic future vision for Mission Control, Training Systems, and Vehicle Mockups via assessments and tradeoff studies of new technology concepts to increase capability for both NASA and Commercial coupled with reduced cost. Is responsible for the development of Division personnel which includes leadership growth opportunities and increased responsibilities consistent with growing skill sets conducive for leadership opportunities across the Flight Operations Directorate, Johnson Space Center (JSC), and Agency portfolio and promotes and fosters an inclusive work environment where employees are valued and respected for their individual and cultural differences. Serves as Chair of the Mission Systems Division Change Control Board which provides configuration management of baseline development project requirements, schedules, and budgets. Provides Agency leadership on the Mission Operations Capabilities Team which has membership from NASA field centers to identify and close gaps in functionality among control centers. Collaborates with senior leaders across JSC to evaluate mission systems performance and risks including fostering alliances with NASA Headquarters, NASA field centers, other government agencies, international partners, and industry in support of mission systems engineering projects that impact human space flight operations.
