Updated September 16, 2021  G2X TAKE: Several months after stepping into the Acting role, Vid Desai, armed with over 26 years of diverse Healthcare and regulatory industry experience, takes on the role of Chief Information Officer with the Food and Drug Administration.  Vid brings experience gained from fields ranging from Pharmaceuticals, Clinical Research Organizations to Medical Device manufacturing, and experience optimizing organizational structure and performance, reversing under-performing teams, globalizing operations and negotiating with vendors.  In announcing the move Vid shared: “I am deeply honored and proud to be named FDA’s first Chief Information Officer reporting directly to the FDA commissioner. Today, we announced a reorganization of the agency’s information technology (IT), data management and cybersecurity functions into the new Office of Digital Transformation (ODT). The office has been realigned to report directly to the FDA commissioner, elevating the office and its functions to agency-level. Vid is armed with over 26 years of diverse Healthcare and regulatory industry experience ranging from Pharmaceuticals, Clinical Research Organizations to Medical Device manufacturing.  In announcing the move Vid posted: “Yesterday was Dr. Amy Abernethy’s last day at the FDA. She was the Principle Deputy Commissioner (PDC) and Acting Chief Information Officer (CIO).
