Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership Direct Funding Opportunity
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE) has issued solicitation RFX-2026-10006 for the Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership (C-MAP). This program supports the implementation of research intended to improve energy delivery for rural and remote areas facing high energy costs and unreliable systems. The initiative provides direct funding and technical expertise to energy providers, local governments, and industry partners to build, operate, and enhance microgrid systems. The solicitation defines a microgrid as a group of interconnected loads and distributed energy resources acting as a single controllable entity, which may be islanded or capable of operating independently from external infrastructure.
The solicitation identifies five distinct topic areas: regional microgrid coordination, integration with large load energy consumers, new microgrid development, microgrid transformation for existing operational systems, and assessments for industrial consumers. These efforts aim to develop multi-community support structures, create detailed engineering designs, and foster collaboration between utilities and industrial users to expand regional development. Work is classified under NAICS 541690 for Other Scientific and Technical Consulting Services and PSC B599 for Special Studies/Analysis - Other.
Managed by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy on behalf of the Department of Energy, this solicitation has a response deadline of July 2, 2026. The place of performance is located in Arvada, Colorado, under the direction of point of contact Kyndall Jackson. There is no set-aside designated for this procurement. The solicitation package includes seven attachments, such as a Statement of Work, deliverable schedules, and technical specifications for community microgrids.

View moreThe 2026 Community Microgrid Development Partnership Awards consist of five (5) topic areas:
1. Regional Microgrid Coordination
To help energy service providers from multiple communities collaborate to improve the operations of, or development opportunities for, separate microgrid power systems for their independent communities.
2. Microgrid Integration with Large Load Energy Consumers
To support collaboration between utilities operating community microgrids and adjacent large load energy consumers which operate, or plan to operate, independent power systems.
3. Microgrid Development
To assist individual communities with completing detailed design efforts for a new, or major retrofit of an existing, microgrid power system.
4. Microgrid Transformation
To equip individual communities to assess, design, and implement innovative microgrid improvements to operational microgrid systems.
5. Microgrid Assessment for Industrial or other Large Load Energy Consumers
To assist individual large energy consumers to develop or advance microgrid systems, expanding energy availability while lowering costs.
