MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER (MSFC) WILL USE FREE-SURFACE MODELING OF CRYOGENIC FLUIDS USING THE VOLUME-OF-FLUID (VOF) METHOD. MSFC HAS A NEED FOR IMPROVED CAPABILITY FOR MODELING OF FREE-SURFACE FLOWS WITH APPLICATION TO LAUNCH VEHICLE PROPELLANT TANK FLUID DYNAMIC. THESE APPLICATIONS INCLUDE PROPELLANT SLOSHING BAFFLES, PREDICTION OF PROPELLANT RESIDUALS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF TANK PRESSURIZATION PROCESS. THE VOF METHOD IS USED TO CAPTURE A LIQUID INTERFACE AND HAS BEEN WIDELY USED FOR THE PREDICTION OF SLOSHING IN A VARIETY OF PROPELLANT TANKS. THIS WORK WILL BE AN EXTENSION OF WORK PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED UNDER A STTR PHASE III (NNM09AA32C) AND A SBIR PHASE I (NNX11CH36P) ENTITLED FREE-SURFACE MODELING OF CRYOGENIC FLUIDS USING A HIGH-ORDER, UNSTRUCTURED GRID VOLUME-OF-FLUID (VOF) METHOD. POINT WHERE LIMITED PRODUCTION CAPABILITY AT NASA/MSFC IS POSSIBLE AND TO ADVANCE THE SOFTWARE DESIGN AND INFRASTRUCTURE SO AS TO PREPARE THE WAY FOR FUTURE EXTENSION TO MODELING COMPRESSIBLE GASES AND LIQUIDS. PER THE SBIR/STTR PHASE III HANDBOOK THE COMPETITION FOR SBIR PHASE I AND PHASE II AWARDS SATISFIES ANY COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS FOR PHASE III AWARDS; THEREFORE, A JUSTIFICATION FOR OTHER THAN FULL AND OPEN COMPETITION IS NOT REQUIRED.
